Prof. Mahendra Nath Roy Conferred with Padma Shri 2026

Prof. Mahendra Nath Roy, distinguished scientist, eminent educationist, and Founder Vice-Chancellor of Alipurduar University, has been honored with the prestigious Padma Shri Award 2026 in recognition of his outstanding contributions to Education and Scientific Research.

This esteemed national honor reflects his decades of dedication to academic excellence, groundbreaking research, and the advancement of higher education. His work has significantly enriched the scientific and educational landscape of the country and continues to inspire students, researchers, and educators alike.

The veteran Chemistry Professor and social worker is being hailed as an “Unsung & Unique Hero” by the Ministry of Home Affairs. Prof. Roy served as Dean at the University of North Bengal and later as the founding Vice-Chancellor of Alipurduar University.

Beyond academics, he has been widely recognised for his grassroots-level social initiatives, particularly in improving access to education among underprivileged communities in North Bengal.

The Civil Investiture Ceremony will be held at Rashtrapati Bhavan on May 25, 2026, where President of India will present the award.
