Celebrating 73 Years of Harmonious Excellence: Pandit Jyoti Goho – The Maestro of Sensitive Accompaniment

Kolkata, May 13, 2026 – The world of Hindustani classical music today extends warm greetings to Pandit Jyoti Goho, one of India’s most sought-after harmonium accompanists, on the occasion of his 73rd birthday. Born on May 13, 1953, Pandit Goho continues to inspire musicians and audiences alike with his astute sense of subtlety and impeccable artistry.

A Journey Rooted in Musical Heritage

Son of Shri Shyam Sundar Goho and Shrimati Bela Goho, Jyoti Goho grew up in a richly musical atmosphere, imbibing the art of singing from his mother’s melodious voice. He initially pursued classical vocal music under knowledgeable gurus Shri Sanat Banerjee and Shri Biren Bose.

His life took a decisive turn when he came under the tutelage of the legendary Pandit A. Kanan, who not only nurtured him but also foresaw his potential as a harmonium accompanist – a prophecy that proved immensely fruitful. Further training under Shri Deb Kumar Banerjee refined his technique, and his long association with maestro vocalist Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty helped him master the exacting standards of sensitive accompaniment, including the ability to understand and adjust to the mood and spirit of the performer.

Pandit Vijay Kumar Kichlu, the eminent singer and musicologist, also played the role of a true guardian, helping Jyoti Goho rise to the professional stage worldwide.

A Global Artist

Pandit Jyoti Goho has performed at all the major music conferences in India and has toured extensively across the globe, including the USA, Canada, UK, France, Germany, Switzerland, Holland, the Middle East, Australia, and New Zealand. He is also one of the few Indian classical musicians to have performed in China – a rare honour.
